 FAQs

  • Ideally, you’re on a mountain bike with plus tires and the ability to mount racks or bags with 40+ L of capacity.

Not everyone will have a plus bike, so a minimum of 2.4” tire is required. The riding is not technical, but sections of loose trail and a loaded bike mean wide tires are a must.

If you want to join us but don’t have a bike that meets the above description, rentals are available upon request at an additional cost.

  • Touring shape. We recommend that you’ve done a trip in the months leading up to our expedition on your loaded bike with roughly the daily average distance we will be covering (75km), and be at least 2 days in length.

Our pace will be manageable for any cyclist that is on the right tool for the job and it isn’t their first ride of the season.

  • We will be providing all accommodations and food from start to finish. You should never have to purchase food or incur a cost along the way. Anything you purchase will be optional (such as a souvenir to remember and support Newfoundland).

This trip is structured to be a rolling all-inclusive and should be the easiest part of the planning process for you, one predictable rate.

  • We will be tenting the majority of the time, so you’ll need adequate layers and sleep system despite it being August. We recommend a sleeping bag with a temperature range down to -5 C and a comfortable inflatable or closed-foam sleeping pad.

We recommend a freestanding tent with adequate inclement weather ability. If you do not have a tent that meets these requirements, we will be providing you a tent for this trip at no charge.

  • This trip is designed to be rewarding for a first time bike tourist or seasoned veteran. The route is fairly flat and not technically challenging. Our daily distance starts quite low, easing us into a group pace and gradually increases as we tackle our biggest days in the middle of the route.

We will be going through small to medium sized communities almost every day as this was Newfoundland’s only means of transport across the island at one time.

  • Your guides will be preparing camp meals twice a day with mid-day snacks and meals provided as well. Our food will be supplied by one of Canada’s premiere backcountry food-packing services custom made for our trip. Dietary needs are able to be accommodated. We are confident you’ll have 3 amazing meals a day and never be hungry. Everyone fuels differently, we’ll make sure you have what you need.

There will also be pub meals spliced in along our journey to break up the number of camp meals a bit and give the team something to look forward to that day.
